2026.05.03 Sermon Notes: Why Does God Let Bad Things Happen?

Image
Westside Family Church   Why Does God Let Bad Things Happen? 2026.05.03 (I didn't attend--migraine and slept through service, watched on 05.09.2026) Pastor JJ Lane Jesus ENTERED suffering Jesus DEFEATED suffering Jesus is PRESENT in suffering And Jesus will END suffering Notes:  God, why do bad things happen?  Maybe you showed up to church hoping someone can answer the question for me? Can JJ give us the right answer; stories, represented in our church family?  I wish JJ could answer the question so you can have a relationship with God. He can't even do it for himself.  Why? JJ's wife and his miscarriage. What is he certain of? Betting his entire life on--- I have hope and that hope has a name.  That name is Jesus! Why do bad things happen to good people? If suffering is meaningless, then what hope do we have? There's no justice, no redemption; we just have to live with the suffering of this world. If suffering is meaningless, why does it feel so wrong? ...

2026.04.19 Sermon Notes: Why Is Jesus The Only Way?

Westside Family Church Why Is Jesus The Only Way Pastor Jonathan Hansen (Triish's last Sunday in worship will be Sunday, April 26, 2026.---She is moving to Dallas, TX!) Notes:  1 Peter 3:15 In your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for he hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect When we are dealing with life or death consequences, persuasion becomes an act of love. Eventually the tornados of life and death and suffering, and t ragedy will come our way, and when it does, it will hit like a freight train. And then we start to ask the big questions… What are the apologetics? 1. Why are we here? 2. How did this whole thing happen? 3. What happens after we die? 4. How do I make sense of pain and suffering? 5. What's the purpose of my life? These questions are so important because if we understand the BEGINNING of the story (where we came from) and the END of the story (where we are going)...

2026.04.12 Sermon Notes: Does God Really Exist? Examining the Evidence for Faith

Pastor Mark Clark Does God Really Exist? Examining the Evidence for Faith In a world filled with skepticism about faith and Christianity, many people wonder whether belief in God is rational or simply wishful thinking. Growing up in a household that was adamantly opposed to Christianity, this question became deeply personal. The journey from skepticism to faith wasn't based on blind belief, but on examining evidence that pointed toward the existence of God. Key Verses Romans 2:14-15 Genesis 1:1 Everyone Has a Faith Position Whether you realize it or not, everyone who walks through life has a faith position about what happens after death. Even those who claim to be purely rational and evidence-based hold beliefs about metaphysical realities they cannot prove. Consider this scenario: When someone dies after suffering, we often say "at least they're not suffering anymore." But how do we know that? If you believe that death simply means non-existence, that's actuall...

Whose Truth Do I Align My Life With?

Image
Now that I feel like I am somewhat caught up on my bible study, I get to start Week 2. This week's verse is: Charm is Deceptive and Beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised--Proverbs 31:30. I used to think 'fear' meant I had to be scared.  I learned today, it means 'respect'.  You have to have 'great' respect for the Lord. In today's video, Nicki presented the question again:  "Whose truth do I align my life with?" Ours or Gods? Such a great question--a pressing question. Today's video even convinced me to go home and take another picture of the other side of my office--my office is nice and I love it.  I love the fact my husband put it together for me.  I posted what I wanted people to see; not how the room actually looked.  Whose truth do you think I was going for when I posted to Facebook?  Yup, you got it?  Mine.  I was being selfish.  I wanted to brag.  "See what an awesome h...

I came in like a Yo-Yo....

If you ever read my blog, you will know that I am so back and forth, up and down, wishy, washy, undecided, oh I can go on and on. One thing I am consistent with is with is my inconsistency in two things--my weight and my relationship with God.  Two things I think I have struggled with almost if not all of my adult life. I make excuses for both.  Anyone else struggle with these two things?  How do you cope? On a side note, I did start Weight Watchers back up again for the &*^&*&(*$# time.  I am on connect as kcchubbygrl.

Lent 2017

What to give up? No.  I want to give in. I want to use this time to grow closer to Him. Shouldn't I want to always grow closer to God?  Yes!! I always want to be that mom who has it all together with work, kids, husband and church. Yes. I realize how I said that--- Work came first and church comes that. Wow.  All the more reason to start this. Soooo....starting tomorrow, I plan to blog daily through Lent to document this journey through to the Resurrection.  God, I know you need to me to be more disciplined.  I haven't lived up to that promise. But I will try.  God, please be with me as you always are. But let me put YOU first instead of last.  God, forgive me. I am on my way back, I promise. God, please surround me with other Christians so I am protected from this world. God, lead me to be the wife and mother you intended me to be.  Let me the daughter, sister and friend I need to be. God, I am ready. I know I am.

Steady My Heart

Image
Sooooo...here I am for the first time this year.  I hope to write many more blog posts this year. After the events of last week: After numerous trips to the ER regarding my SVT, I had an ablation to my heart on Valentine's Day-on a valve that I had fixed when I was born.  It was a bittersweet moment for my family and I.  My mom was there once again for me.  I could write a whole blog dedicated to that woman.  She was my first friend and is my biggest cheerleader.  I love her.  I jump on the blog-bus and think I'm going to get on it and ride it for awhile and then I fall off.  I fall off every bus I'm on: the weight-loss bus, the organized mom bus, and the good ole church bus. What I'm missing in my life is accountability.  I don't know why I am not strong enough to just 'do it'....but I need to.  I mean, I NEED TO. I am a Christian.  I haven't been to church in a while and for that I am very embarrassed.  I am one of 't...

A Quiet Reminder

My marriage and the tribulations it has gone through is not 'new news'.  It is known I was unfaithful and continued to be unfaithful.  It is also known that my husband forgave me and we continue to grow in a new love for each other.  I make a choice every day to love my husband and my family.  He chooses to forgive me and teaches me unconditional love, daily.  My husband loves me as Jesus does (maybe not as much - but pretty darn close!) Just the other day, my Facebook Timehop reminded me that I struggled 3 years ago.  A post requesting prayer for my kids and myself.  Another stated getting rid of 250 lbs. and even another reminded  me that something terrible had happened between Christmas and New Years 2011. I asked my husband if he re-called what happened 3 years ago, he couldn't remember either.   I literally racked my brain for awhile wondering what in the world could have happened and I got nothing.  The thought quickly left m...

36

In just two short days, I will be celebrating 36 years of life.  I'm not depressed that I'm getting older.  In fact, I earned EVERY year. I could be cliche' and post by NYR on here.  It's January 1, isn't that what every body does?   I won't because guess what?  I don't have one.  I do want a REVolution.  I want to REV up my energy, REV up my water intake.  That's it.  No diet, no gym memberships.  I want to REV up my relationship with my Husband, my kids and ultimately God. Being healthy--means WANTING it. Just as being a Christian makes you WANT to go to church.  Striving to make healthy choices, being healthy makes you WANT to stay healthy. I have heard a lot lately about "changing my attitude" and that I need to "love myself" first.  Is this true?  Is it that easy? No, I don't think it is. Obedience. Now THAT is difficult. I am taking this word for EVERYTHING it has to offer. Yes.  THAT word will set me free. Yes....

As the Twig is Bent--so grows the tree

So the time is here--today is the first day of 'camp'.  I haven't left yet.  Sitting on my computer (writing this blog--not to mention, on hold for the IRS--fun, huh?) Today, I am at peace.  I continue to be in this state of mind all week--I pray my husband and I can get through this little rough patch (we have been arguing a lot--I'm supposed to take full blame, cuz I think that is what he wants me to do).  I suppose I am sorry, but sometimes the boy annoys the heck out of me.  So again, I am at peace (need to remember this, all day--every day) My goal this week is to show God what he has done to me lately (although he already knows).  I am so happy and content--content is a word I think I rarely used.  It's an amazing feeling.  I can't describe it--but even amidst of this contentment, I still struggle with my relationship with my husband. Divorce has crossed my mind.  I feel that maybe this relationship has run it's course and maybe m...

When He Closes a Door...

...He opens a window. God has helped us close the door on a chapter in our lives--our church. However we are lookng forward to finding our new church home. Wyandotte was just our stepping stone to get us to where we need to be for our family. We accepted Christ in that church. We ministered to youth In that church...our daughter came to know God in that church...but it's time for Good-bye...and for bigger and better things... Its sad and a little painful, but I'm sure God will continue to guide us to our church home.
