2026.06.07 Sermon Notes: Made For Adventure

Westside Family Church Made For Adventure Pastor Jonathan Hanson Notes:  Ernest Shackleton (1914) https://heartstonejourney.com/men-wanted-for-hazardous-journey/ Men wanted for hazardous journey. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success. We do not want the safest option - we want the meaningful option . Men are not primarily created for safety. Created for battle for the world.  That desire for adventure, not a character flaw - we should cultivate "Deep in his heart, every man longs for a battle to fight, an adventure to live, and a beauty to rescue." - John Eldredge STAND FIRM Part 4: Made for Adventure Genesis 12 & 22  |  Matthew 25:14–30 Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages. Bitter cold. Long months of complete darkness. Constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success. John Eldredge says, “Deep in his heart, every man longs for a battl...

2026.05.24 Sermon Notes: By Building Bonfires: Cultivating A Life Lived For God

Westside Family Church Building Bonfires: Cultivating A Life Lived For God Pastor: Jonathan Hansen Notes:  Building a life with God, takes work! I. CLEARING THE LAND Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles , and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1 Sin entangles our lives and drags us down.  There are things we have to cut away. The Lord will cut some things from our lives! Every branch that bears fruit, he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful . John 15:2 This reframes the pain of clearing. It's not punishment, it's preparation. God cuts things away that need to be thrown into a burn pile. This is part of his work in our lives. "Midway along the journey of life (midlife crisis) , I woke to find myself in a dark wood, for I had wandered off from the straight path. How hard it is to tell what it was like—this wood of wilderness, savage and stubborn. A bitter place. Death could scarce be worse.” ~D...

2026.05.17 Sermon Notes: Hold The Line: Three Battles Every Man Must Win

Westside Family Church Hold The Line: Three Battles Every Man Must Win Pastor: Jonathan Hansen N otes:  Faith should NOT be domesticated.  The bears at the zoo verses Kings Cave, bear can, 20-30 yards away.  See the stars where there is no light pollution. Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men (be courageous), be strong. Let all you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NIV) But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:11-12 (NIV) My thesis: If you win the internal battle of the soul, you can win the external battles of work and the relational battles at home. But if you lose the inner war, the rest of your life eventually crumbles. The sins of some are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the s...
