2026.09.06 Sermon: Build Your Life

Westside Family Church

Build Your Life

Pastor: Randy Frazee

Notes:

Fill in the blank: How do we build our lives on a foundation of rock?

#1 – We must hear the words of Jesus.

So then, faith come by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

Romans 10:17

Practicing Christians: More than 2 in 3 (68%) are Scripture Engaged, meaning a smaller minority are disengaged.

Casual Christians: Only 23% qualify as Scripture Engaged, leaving the majority disengaged or in the movable middle.

Nominal Christians: Just 8% qualify as Scripture Engaged, meaning roughly 92% are not actively engaged with the Bible by their metric.

“I believe the Bible is the Word of God that guides my beliefs and actions."

“I read the Bible to know God, the truth, and to find direction for my daily life.”

Jesus said, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Matthew 4:4

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice…”

Notes:

Fill in the blank: #2 – We must do the words of Jesus.

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

James 1:22-25

Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.

James 1:26

  • Embrace our spiritual poverty
  • Hunger for righteousness
  • Show mercy to others
  • Overcome our contemptuous anger & sexual lust
  • Greet the unlikeable
  • Trust God for our daily needs
  • Break the cycle of hatred & judgment

Notes:

Fill in the blank: THE STORMS OF THIS LIFE

If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God,as we walked about among the worshipers.

Psalm 55:12-14

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Psalm 55:22

Hearing and doing God’s Word will see you through the storms of this life.

Notes:

Fill in the blank: THE STORMS OF GOD’S JUDGMENT

Hearing and doing God’s word will confirm the authenticity of your faith.

What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.

James 2:14-18

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth… Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

1 John 1:6, 2:4
