2026.08.16 Sermon: Eyes on the Road
Westside Family Church
Pastor: Jonathan Hansen
Bucketlist Item! Highway 1 down the coast of California.
Notes:
Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Matthew 7:13–14
The kingdom of heaven is not just a future destination, it’s a present reality He's inviting you into today.
Sincerity doesn't determine your destination. Who you're actually following does.
Grace gets you on the road. The hard road is the good road. You’ll Never Walk It Alone
Notes:
1. GRACE GETS YOU ON THE ROAD
Enter by the narrow gate.
Matthew 7:13
I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.
John 10:9
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.
Ephesians 2:4-5
Notes:
Grace gets you in the door. Answer Jesus! Jesus is the reason we get to heaven. There is no other way!
2. THE HARD ROAD IS THE GOOD ROAD
For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Matthew 7:14
Jesus takes us underneath the external behavior, down to the heart. Because eventually, what's happening inside of you starts paving the road in front of you.
He's interested in changing our heart!
--
When David was chosen as King, Jesus is interested in the heart (Samuel) - David was young.
STONE ONE—SURRENDER. The narrow road isn't narrow because Jesus is stingy with grace. It's narrow because you cannot follow Jesus while insisting on BEING THE LORD OF YOUR OWN LIFE.
STONE TWO—LOVE.
Do we really love Jesus? Love your enemies and pray for those that persecute you!
Do I actually love the people that are hard to love in my life.
Love is the litmus test!
STONE THREE—TRUST.
There is a sense of trust, we want to control the outcomes, control the narrative,
Even if we worked really hard, life is still going to throw us curve-balls.
If we are walking in the narrow road with Jesus, is there a sense of peace and trust with our heavenly father?
Grace is the sustaining power that changes you!
Notes:
3. YOU DON'T WALK THIS ROAD ALONE
The Jesus who saves you is the one who sustains you.
It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
Galatians 2:20
For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13
Richard Hoyt and Rick, born with Cerebral Palsey, severely handicapped, pushing his son in a 5k.
32 Boston marathons. My dad was my engine, but I was his heart.
Jesus is our engine and we carry the Father's heart. We are his ambassadors to the world?
Thank you Jesus for your grace!
